My younger brother (Anthony 'Tony' Brown 90') is going to get his first start in the NFL this Sunday (11/08/98) against the Jacksonville Jaguars! Yes, he is a product of good ol' Wurzburg American High School Football! Anyway, he is #75 and he'll be starting at right guard. This is his fourth year in the NFL-by the way he has played all four years for the Cincinnati Bengals. Have a beautiful three year old daughter that's just great. While in the Air Force I was stationed at McChord AFB, WA for three years and am now at Lajes Fld, in the Portuguese Azores. If anyone out there remembers who I am I'd love to hear from you. If you're having trouble remembering here's some more info. I was on the wrestling team and football team in 90-91 and lived in Wertheim. If anybody knows where Jason and Traci(Nagy) Merriman are that would be fine too. I just got the report from my Mom and Dad. Apparently it's just like a HUGE K-Mart (the layout of the place, that is). You first enter through the old (or, more recent) Sight & Sound, which has been turned into a large food mall (taco bell, etc.). The old PX we all knew so well is now going to be a Furniture store. The old Commissary, on the other side of the Movie theater, is going to be a huge book store. So- there you go! |

Whew! I really hate to fly! Wouldn't you know I find myself going every year anyways. So, I just came back from WERTHEIM! Right outside of Wuerzburg. For those of you that know Wertheim, as you come off the autobahn exit for Wertheim, guess what greets you? Not only a McDonalds, but also a Burger King. I think it really stinks, but the residents are excited about the new junk food they now get to have so close at hand. Also, there used to be a Disco right outside of Wertheim as you are leaving the town on the left hand side - it is now called "Millers" - an American restaurant. Don't they know we want them to keep their wonderful German traditions and ways? PEDEN BARRACKS? Wow! What a change folks. The housing has been and is continuing to be renovated into apartments. These apartments are not for rent, rather for sale. Going price? Approximately 250,000.00 DM. The old grammar school on Peden? It is now a school or office complex for ???, can't remember. A brand new school has been built next door for the little ones. My cousin's ( my German relatives live in Wertheim!)little girl had her first day of school - big tradition in Germany - I attended the ceremony and church service. It was really neat. I overheard two guys speaking English - rude as I am I butted in. They were in the service in 84'-85' and married German girls and stayed. They both said they miss the States, but just like when I lived there, you just get used to the different culture and live it. It was really cute, one of the guys from New York was saying how he never thought he would be a Puerto Rican with a German accent. But sure enough, these guys had german accents when speaking english. Other than that? Frankfurt was fun. Went to a Wine Fest! Ach! These people really know how to relax and have a good time, without being stupid. I ate broetchen every morning for breakfast. Devoured a Schnitzel the first day there and walked my butt off. I had perfect weather - 70's and sunshine the whole time. Got sick anyways! EVERYONE and EVERYWHERE you go, smoke, smoke, smoke. If you aren't used to it anymore it does get to you. We have gone in the opposite extreme and so my immune system went wacko on me. Eating at Italian restaurants is the thing to do now in Germany and I must say the food can't be compared with our Italian restaurants. Thank God you walk alot over there or else people would die of over eating non stop. Wuerzburg, as some of you may know, is getting ready to be THE biggest mall location for the military. It is very different than most of us remember as well. Well, I could go on and on, but this has drawn out. I knew though some of you would want to hear about changes and such. So, if you have any questions, just send a note. I'll get back in contact with you. Promise. In closing, I still do not see alot of 1980 graduates in the guest book. Would you guys please come out of the woodwork. I intend on going to the reunion and look forward to seeing how we have all improved with age! By the way, for those that share(d) my love for Led Zepplin, I went to the Page/Plant concert in July. As close as I could ever get to the real Zepplin. What a blast! Music back then was just ten times better than anything out now. Happy Halloween! Boo! |

A job at Wal-mart working as a Customer Service Manager..I mean don't get me wrong that 10% comes in very handy!!!! hehehe Just wanna say I am proud to be a military-brat when I see how successful that discipline has become.....I think we are the best made and the best raised. We have been many places and have seen many faces, which makes us the leaders we are today, so what if our parents had to be really hard on us for the sake of thier careers, it sure helped us in the long run did it not? Raising us as military brats was the best thing our parents could have done for us!!!!! Hey, the DYA was just as good as visiting Grandma!!!!! It really made me think of the good old times.Like going down to Gerbrunn on the weekends and working at the commisary bagging.I can remember Tina Shoopmen was my shift leader.There was a time I'm sure even Ray can remember. Me, Freddy Miller and Marco Khulman went up to the top of the stairewell of Ray's building and tied all the doors together. When we where finished we knocked on all the doors and ran off to the back of the building. Little did we know Ray would jump out the window and almost jumped right on Marco. Kids will be Kids!I can remember hanging out at the tunnels behind the MP station, also going to watch rated R movies at the Hospital (Cheech & Chong)because they didn't check I.D's. I would like to thank Greg Manwarning for his update on current events back at Wurzburg, and yes, I agree, I cant believe a DODDS School is having problems with gangs, unreal. With all the benefits, with all the places to see and do, and the events that were in place at the time we were there, I cant even start to think why anyone in their right or left mind would want to be lead by someone into self degradation, when life offers so, so much, if one would just stop and open their eyes to the possibilities that life has to offer.... enough wasted time on that issue. But thanks again Greg, it was interesting to hear what the "old" homestead is doing these days. The Real USC ( University of South Carolina) just won its first football game this season against Ball State, 38-20, and will prove theirselves for the season with a win against Georgia and Florida, games 2 & 3 the next two following weeks..just thought I would add that.....lol Bob, I will do some checking and get back with you from the AOL end about Carmen and Diana Holtz. I am currently married to Roxanne Rogers and have been for almost 2 years. I am also a teaching assistant at Miami University (Oxford, OH) were I will complete my MS in Systems Analysis and will go on to work for Eli Lilly in Marketing and Pharmaceuticals Systems. Teachers have already gone back to work. For some depressing news, it seems that the past few years at WAHS they've had a real problem with 'Gangs'. It's been a real problem, and several kids have had to be deported. I know that it's hard to imagine, especially when you think about such good times as AYA dances, and rollerskating in Erlangen, and the fact that we never had such things in our days there. Oh wellll, enough of that. In other news, the new "Biggest Shopping Mall (on a Military Base) in Europe" is nearing completion! Apparently it's located behind Colonel's Row, and more toward where :-) man Field was. (Ahh, the memories of Wolf pride that was exhibited there! And memories of Murphy the M.P., and Al Cato handcuffing me around one of the goalposts on a snowy winter night!) They also have a Popeyes Chicken, and Burger King on Post. The snack bar was divided up into 4 mini fast food services (and you can still see some of the same ole German employees from our days working there). All the life has been drained from that place. Foodland is now a video rental place. I think the bowling alley is gone now too (since they have a big one in Kitzingen). Oh, you know, a couple of years ago I ran into Shaquille Oneal at a nightclub, and I said "Hi" to him, and told him I was from Wurzburg. Well his eyes lit up, and he asked "You're from Wurzburg?!!" I replied 'yes', and also told him that I used to play AYA (or J.V.) basketball in Fulda (where he was from), and he said "Cool" (with a smile)! Kinda' Cool- the camraderie we all have, isn't it??! I emailed a few of you with downloadable maps of the situation here. I know that many may say its just a storm, but the last one that made landfall here, made its way up threw the midlinds, (here Columbia SC) and the upstate (Charlotte area), and left many of us without power in this region for about 12 days, the coastal areas ie., Charleston, Myrtle Beach, were out of power for about 3 weeks in some places. The name of that storm/hurricane was HUGO, back in '89. So, to make a long story short, if any of you try to contact me over the next 7 - 10 days, (as a just in case), and you dont hear back from me, well, this will explain why. I do have my Bejin Freeplay radio, ready and two big ice chest full. During Hugo, I lost about 80 bucks in meat from the freezer over the fridge, and about 300 bucks of meats and veggies that were in the chest freezer. If you could only imagine the possibilities in a hurricane, you would have a better since of understanding what a storm like this effects can have on you this far inland. But enough for now, will be thinking nice thoughts while the storm passes, and to all the Alumni who are also from this region, lets "Batton Down the Hatches" OH YEAH, BOB, I THOUGHT THE REUNION WAS IN 2000, what is this about 99, thats not the year the reunion is , is it? I keep reading entries on the REUNION IN 99, i think you might re-email everybody and let them know that it is JUNE OF 2000 IN VEGAS, and I for one, am really looking forward to this. Us wolves as with other overseas alumni, have a special relation as DODDS school, in which each class can no way match that of a stateside class in which the whole school seemed close, or at least you knew faces if you didnt know the names, and no stateside school could do that, so i just hope nobody get confused here on the reunion date, and makes it to Vegas at the right time LOL. Well, i guess thats enough, trying to get my email and everthing else in before we loose power here. Those of you who know me by real name here is my history since '89. Went to school at King's College in Wilkes-Barre, PA for two and a half years. During that time my family moved from Germany to Louisville, KY (90). In '91 I transfered to the University of Louisville. While there saw Amy Knight (90). I gradurated in 95 with a Major in Computer Science and a minor in Business. During the time a UofL, I did internships with Galen/Humana Health Care (PC Tech), State Farm Insurance (PC Tech), and UPS Air Group (Programmer). I was then jobless for about 3 monthes. I have since been working for Shoe Carnival, Inc in Evansville IN as a programmer. I've kept in touch off and on with Penny Gibbons, Steve and Sharon Williams, and Jennifer Dyroff. I would like to know some info about the following former WAHS students: Mary Jo Adams, LaShandra Harris, Maverick Quiambao, Mike and Danny Slifer, Kathy Moore, Suzanne Katin, Alma Rosario, Donald Hood, and Regina Strater(is married now). Does anyone know the current status of the JROTC? ONE LAST THING CONGRATES TO THE WAHS 90 FOOTBALL TEAM. I heard they took All-Europe (or something like that)! Until next time! |

Before that I attended Schweinfurt elementary school. Later, as an Army Officer stationed in Nurnburg from 1970-74, I went back to the wolves domain. I recently submitted the letter jacket of Ken Haynes a good friend of mine and who died tragically a few years ago, to Wurzburg HS's display case. Ken attended in the late 50s early 60s when Wurzburg dominated the football & track Championships under Coach Pierson. Ken lettered in track, football, basketball at Wurzburg and went on to play for Munich HS's Championship basketball team. Looking forward to a reunion in Las Vegas. I went out to a local pub in Oldtown Alexandria, the Lizard Lounge, to play some pool and have a few beers in celebration of my recent b-day (26). Anyway, the guy I played pool with for most of the evening turned out to be a Wurzburg graduate from 1970. We bonded, the beer helped, and discussed the old days in Germany. Of course he was there before I was born. I was nice enough to point this out to him but we got along just fine anyway. For those of you who are wondering who this guy is, all I can tell you is his first name, John. So he has been clued into the website here so maybe he will show up on the site sometime soon. My Major was Television Production/Radio Broadcasting. I interned at 2 large Radio Stations, 1 in New York City, the other on Long Island where I was living. I enjoyed it immensely. I interacted with MANY FAMOUS people and partied with them at social events. It was KILLER!!! After college, I was jobless. At every job interview I was told, "I’m sorry but you don’t have enough experience." Even though President Clinton told everyone that there were SO MANY NEW JOBS out there. LIAR, LIAR!!! So, I started to work for my brothers, they own their own companies...and they owed me. Hee hee :) Charles, is a Sound Engineer for Bands and does President Clinton's sound (microphoning him) when he comes into New York City. My other brother Joe, owns a Computer Software Developing Co. where I was developing Video games and Web pages. (Some games that I helped out on were: Barbie- Supermodel, Casper, Maui Mallard, just to name a few. I was the level layout designer. It's an awesome job.) It was exciting for a year, then I decided to bust out and get a real job....unfortunately, who wants to hire someone with a "Talking Degree"? Sales people - mostly, but the pay sucked, so I started to work for a Bank, I was there for 1 ½ years...I was the HEAD TELLER after 3 months. I won several awards for processing transactions and speediness with cash. J After my 1st year there, I decided to take a vacation, visit places in America that I know I would like to see before I get old and can't travel. J So my oldest brother Joe and I took 2 weeks off and traveled through the South. We hit Graceland - had to see Elvis. Then we went to Mardi Gras - had to drink like a fish - again, I thought I was in Germany again. hee hee :) And finally down to Florida to visit some of my brother's friends - where I fell in love with FLORIDA. I was offered a job through this lady who was dating my brother's bestfriend at the time.....I met her at dinner with my brother. It turned out that she loved my PERSONALITY, who doesn’t ;) and asked me if I would consider moving down to Florida to work for her. I told her that I was quite happy with my life in NEW YORK - the city that never sleeps....but that I would consider it and let her know. After a month or two of writing the pro’s and con’s...I gave my boss my two weeks and moved down to Melbourne, Florida the end of July 1997. I have been here ever since. I worked for a Travel Agency developing their Web Site. (If you want to check it out: http://www.beyondandback.com) The job at the travel agency didn’t last long. About 8 ½ months into the job, they had to let me go - Corporate cutbacks....that sucked. Oh well. I then was jobless again for a couple of months, I got a great TAN in the meantime. :) I searched high and low for a NEW job, but I still didn’t find what I wanted, until...I was notified from my old job by an ex-coworker that her boyfriend owned a NewsTalk Radio Station around the corner from my house. An AM station - YIKES! But I took the job. :) I was their Sales representative at first, but then I wasn’t enjoying it that much, so I decided to learn the Board...I was Engineering the Radio station at night....5pm-midnight shift. I was a DJ for about 3 ½ months when the IRS came down on the Radio Station and froze up all our paychecks and the FCC license. So again, I hit the pavement searching for a NEW job. GOD this sucks !!! I finally got a job a month ago, 1 month after the scandal at the Radio Station...I am now working at a Computer company. I am their Inside Sales Administrative Assistant/Web Developer. It's the most fun job ever. I work with some very fun, active and YOUNG people. The oldest one here is 42 and I am the youngest at 25. :) (I never got married - at least not yet. I too am shocked that a lot of our classmates gotten married and have children. Right now I'm in Germany (Spangdahlem AFB) and I got to see Wurzburg win another football championship (Chris was All Europe!!). By the way, did you know that the only 2 times Wurzburg won a football championship was when one of the Lane brother's played on the team??!! Me in '89 and Chris in '97...it was great to be there! Anyway, I married my girlfriend from my senior year. I don't know if you know her, she was only there for two years. Her name is Silvana, but in school back then she was known by everyone as Nena. If anyone else comes to town you will have to call so that we can arrange another get together. We had a blast looking over the old yearbooks and pictures that Pedro brought with him. If anyone needs a laugh they should pull out the old yearbooks and check out the cloths we wore. Yeck. Not all of it was bad but you have to admit some of the styles were not that flattering. I remember the movie theatre, the BX sorry PX for you army folks(smile) as you can tell my father was air force station there. There weren't many of us there. I played softball for the base rec center. I had anaccident whiile rolling skating, i had my fingers smashed in the doors of the aafes cafeteria. I remember skating from there to my house which was right in front of the school. Actually I think that picture was taking in front of my apartment building. That seemed liked a long walked. From: San Jose, California Time: 1998-07-16 10:23:02 Comments: On July 15, 1998, a mini-reunion took place in Oakland, CA between Genevieve Knych '82, Laura Kay Rand (Ikari) '83, and myself also of '83. The three of us had drinks and looked through the 83 yearbook, a scrapbook I created for my senior year, and pictures I had of friends in those days. Of course, we laughed and reminisced about who dated who, how funny the hair styles were back then, and how much we appreciated, in hindsight, our wonderful teachers. After drinks, we then had dinner at a great seafood restaurant called Kincaid's. Anyone who knows Jenny, knows her crazy sense humor. That humor was not lost during dinner. Our waiter was graciously patient with Jenny's antics, so Laura made sure he was tipped well! We were laughing so much , it's no wonder they didn't throw us out! The evening was a great success. This little reunion was made possible through Laura Kay who was in town from Hawaii for a conference and since she knew Jenny just moved to San Francisioco and that I lived in San Jose, she rounded us up. So if there are any other WAHS folks in California or Hawaii, contact either of us, we'd love to have dinner with you. |

(and hey Mar, we did have one hell of a time there in '95, huh?) Although I missed the first reunion, as I didn't know there was an Alumni Association, I can certainly attest to the fact that the one I did attend was a BLAST !!!!!!!!!! And I can also say that, I think, a few people were shocked to see me there :o). I can't wait for the next one, and I believe that Vegas is the perfect place to meet. It's relatively inexpensive and they're open ALL NIGHT !!!! A must if you plan on reminiscing and only have 2 days to do it in. I hope I see many more faces, I've not seen over the years, at this next reunion. It was great to see Claire (Hatfield) Murphy and her husband Bob a few weekends ago...I think we bored him to death by reminiscing so much! It's my turn to fly up to Fairbanks to visit them and meet their daughter. I would encourage EVERYONE to try to make the next reunion; it's a guaranteed great time! And since money doesn't grow on trees up here in Anchorage, donations to Bob Manwaring for the WAHS reunion fund I'm sure are always welcome. He used to ask for stamp money occasionally, but none of us are using stamps anymore, huh! Gotta love the internet! The school was located downtown in a large building on the second floor over the Post Exchange. I lived at 4 Oberer Dallenberg Strasse across the river to the left of the old Castle. Back then you had to go to Nurnberg High School if you lived in Wurzburg. We moved a lot and I also attended Munich and Heidelberg High School, then left Germany in 1954. I returned to Wurzburg in 1993 on vacation and couldn't believe all the changes that had taken place. I got lost in Wurzburg and went on to Bad Kissingen where the place didn't change much at all. I stayed in the Kurhaus Hotel during my visit which was the same hotel I lived in when I attended grade school in the Kursaal Spa across the street. Hello to Maryanne Crouse, Bill Graf, and Ann Wyss if you are still out there. Mr. Rubino was our principal. |
