Hello, Wolves:
We have sad news. I spoke
earlier today with Donna Weidinger, wife of Bill Weidinger, WAHS Class of '63,
and also with Ruth Smith Weidinger, Class of '61, who is married to Bill's
brother, Tom, Class of '60. Bill passed away last Thursday,
January 16th, in Orlando, Florida. The family would like the Wolves to
know that there will be a Memorial Service for Bill on Saturday, February 1st,
in Winter Park, which is near Orlando.
Bill arrived at WAHS as a freshman
with the Christmas rotation during the 59-60 school year, so he missed having
a class photo in the '60 annual. He is; however, one of the very few who
attended WAHS freshman through senior year, as he still was there for his
graduation in 1963. Bill was a graduate of the Univ. of Georgia and earned
his Masters Degree in Education from Rollins College. He had been
with the Orange County Public Schools for 30 years as a Coach,
Assist. Principal, and Principal. His last work was as the Senior
Administrator for Discipline. Donna said to tell you that Bill wrote the
Code of Conduct for the Orange County schools and he liked to say he 'wore the
black hat.'
Donna also wants to share with you
that although Bill had been battling cancer (centered in his back), he left
this earth peacefully. During their last conversation, Bill's love of
golf was obvious, as he said to her, "Let's sign-up for 9 holes, then
another 9, and then let's go get a burger!' I mentioned to Donna and
Ruth that I had a vivid memory of Bill from our WAHS reunion in DC back in
1987: tall, handsome and still as fun and mischievous as we remembered
from his days at WHS. They said to 'hold the memory,' as he was that way
to the end.
The family requests that in lieu
of flowers, contributions can be made in Bill's memory to:
Hospice of the Comforter -
595 Montgomery Road - Altamonte Springs, FL 32714
Condolences can be sent to Donna,
and Bill's brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Ruth, at the following
addresses: Donna Weidinger 715 Waterland Ct.
Orlando, FL 32828
Bill also is survived by a son, Rob; two
grandsons, Brock and Brian; and his Mother, Margaret Weidinger Oberlin.
If any of our Wolves can pay
tribute to Bill by showing some support to Donna, Tom and Ruth and
their families, a Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2003,
10:00 AM, Knowles Memorial Chapel at Rollins College in Winter Park.
Sincerely,
Joanie C. LaFond
